My quarantine essentials…

I’m excited to be back after a few months to share some thoughts with you regarding some things that I did during this national lockdown. Initially, when the lockdown was first announced in India, I thought I was going to have way too much time on my hands and I wouldn’t know how to spend it. But after a few months of successfully building a productive routine and filling up my days with some activity or another, I feel accomplished but at the same time, well-rested. I finally feel like my body is relaxed but my mind is still focused and busy thinking about what I should do next.

During the start of quarantine, I decided to stay productive no matter how much free time I had and use my time wisely. So I planned various ways on how I can keep my mind, body, and soul active. Throughout quarantine, I developed a healthy routine to keep me fit physically, mentally, and spiritually. Let me share with you some of the things that are part of my routine.

How I Stay Fit Physically

The first thing I like to do each morning when I wake up is to open up the curtains wide. As the sunlight falls on my face, I feel awake instantly and it gears me up for the day. It fills the room with a bright light and gives me a boost to start the day.

Right before the lockdown started, I had been going to the gym daily for a month. I had been training to reach my personal goals which were to get stronger, get toned, increase my stamina, and gain weight. I had been following a diet that would help me healthily reach my goals as well. When the lockdown was announced, all businesses were closed which meant that I couldn’t go to the gym every morning. However, instead of letting that stop me, I decided to continue working out at home. I created a playlist filled with workout videos and scheduled a part of my day to exercise. I continue my healthy eating habits and learned a few new recipes as well. It kept me motivated to reach my goals.

How I Stay Fit Mentally

Many times when we feel like we have a lot of time, we tend to get lazy and procrastinate. We sit in one place, scroll through our phone or mindlessly watch TV. When we do that the whole day, we don’t even realize that we’ve wasted so much of our time and feel guilty about it later.

Some of these things that I do each day helps keep my mind occupied healthily and keeps it working. Before the lockdown, all of us at home would be running in different directions because of our varying schedules so we’d barely have time to spend together. But because of this lockdown, we can see each other more often and we spending at least one part of the day together. We have been playing carom, cards, board games, and also badminton and football in our backyard. We get to be active, social, and we have time to spend as a family. It brings us together as well as keeps us active.

I also make time to talk to a friend at least once a day so that I can maintain the friendships in my life. It’s a way to see how they are doing, coping up with the lockdown, and learn how they are doing mentally. It is important to check up on our friends even during this time and help each other through the things that we face on an everyday basis.

I’ve also discovered many TV shows and movies that share different perspectives on people from various backgrounds, cultures, lifestyles, and stories. It motivates me to learn more about the ways of people and how I can use that positively in my work and daily life. I’ve learned many positive traits that I can apply in my life and how I can understand people who have a different lifestyle from me. I pick TV shows and movies based on my interests and also from recommendations and narrow it down to see if it’ll be useful for me rather than just to watch something to simply pass the time.

I’ve also been spending time with our dog, Coffee. You might have seen the sweet golden retriever on my Instagram page. He keeps me company during the day and active as well since I have to run behind him to snatch something from his mouth that he shouldn’t have, LOL. He’s fun to be around and boosts my mood during this time.

I’ve been discovering new music from various genres and expanding my taste. It’s been an interesting experience as I listen and understand new music from the first time I discover it to hearing it multiple times in the day and learning every part of it. I make playlists based on the vibe of the song and listen to the playlist that pertains to my mood each new day.

I’ve also been catching up on my work regarding music and college assignments. I’ve been catching up on projects that I’ve been putting off and checking all of the things on my to-do list. It has been satisfying to tick each box and have a sense of feeling accomplished after each task. The most important project I’ve been working on during the last couple of months that has taken up most of my time is working on my brand new English album. I’ve been finishing up writing each song, working with the producers to complete the music and recording the vocals. It’s been a very exciting process and I’ve been loving every second of it. It gives me an adrenaline rush to work on each aspect of the album and I can’t wait for you all to hear it. Please keep the project in your prayers.

How I Stay Fit Spiritually

One thing I loved using my time for during quarantine was to listen to sermons from various preachers. I was able to listen to different perspectives and revelations regarding various bible verses, stories, and inspirational life instances that strengthened me spiritually. I also dug deep into those scriptures individually, researched those topics, and realized many new things from the scripture and learned more about who God is. I loved those little moments of realization and the feeling of finding new and intimate details about God and His wondrous works. The same happened as I would read the bible and pray every day. As I would find scripture that stood out for the day, I had time to meditate on it and find truths regarding those verses. I would jot it down in my journal and keep thanking God for His promises and instructions for me.

Another thing that I did during quarantine was to go live on Instagram with some of my friends online. I was able to share my life experiences and realize how much God has done in my life to teach me, mold me, and shape me throughout my existence. Through the various topics that we discussed, I was able to realize how God’s hand in various parts of my life and how He guides me through it. As I shared those experiences, many young people who were going through similar situations were able to gain confidence and build a dependence on God that He would do the same for them as well. Many found comfort and hope for their future. It was heartwarming to read all the testimonies from those who messaged me after the live sessions and I thank God for helping me and the people who listened to those conversations.

All of these activities have been keeping me busy and are helping me stay fit physically, mentally, and spiritually. It has helped me spend my time productively but also taught me to take each day at a time. This quarantine is a reminder for us to slow down in this fast-paced world and cherish every single moment in our lives. Let’s remember each day to give thanks to God for all that we have. As we do that, God will give us what we need, more than we expect, according to 2 Corinthians 9:8-10. I’d like to thank all the frontline for keeping us safe, healthy, and protected. All of you are in my prayers.

You can include any of these activities into your routine, swap out, mix and match and choose whatever fits your routine so that you can live a positive, Christ-filled lifestyle even during this lockdown.
