Updated Skincare Routine 2021

For those of you who stuck around till now since the start of my YouTube channel, you would remember my previous routine. However, I’ve tried out a few different products since then, learned a little more about skincare, and curated a routine to nurture the specific needs for my skin. I wanted to share with you some of the products I use in my routine during the day and night.

My Skin Type

As I mentioned in my previous article, I have combination skin, where I get oily mostly on my t-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), and I also have large pores on my nose because of that. The rest of my face is normal to dry. I also have dark spots from pimples and hyperpigmentation around my mouth and chin area. I use these products to treat these skin concerns.

Here are some of the products I use, as part of my current skincare routine:

Cleansing Oil

After a long day of wearing sunscreen or makeup, I use a cleansing oil to remove it. I gently massage the oil into my skin with my fingers to dissolve the products on my skin, whether it be foundation, mascara, lipstick, waterproof products, and so on. I do this for at least 60 seconds to make sure I dissolve every bit of the product on my face so that I can easily wash it off with a cleanser.

I’ve recently been loving the Purito From Green Cleansing Oil as it simply glides on my face and dissolves the makeup in no time. I tend to stay away from makeup wipes as it’s very drying and I feel like it strips my skin of its moisture and nutrients.

Cleanser

I used to use a scrub face wash every time I cleansed my face which was very harsh, leaving a bumpy texture on my skin. So I decided to switch to a different cleanser that was not only more gentle but it cleaned my skin without making it feel tight and stripped off its moisture.

I currently use the Youth To The People Superfood Cleanser. It is formulated with cold-pressed antioxidants - kale, spinach, and green tea which cleans and calms the skin.

Toner

After cleansing, I apply toner to a cotton pad and gently slide it over my face and neck. I use the Paula’s Choice Pore-Reducing Toner. This toner has niacinamide, antioxidants and soothing plant extracts in it which helps to balance oily skin, minimizes enlarged pores, and provides light hydration.

Exfoliant

I use a BHA exfoliant every 2 days or so during my nighttime routine to clean up clogged pores and help the skin rebuild its moisture shield. I use it in place of toner and follow up with a moisturizer.

The BHA exfoliant I use is the COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid. It helps clear clogged pores and gently exfoliates dead skin cells, giving the skin its natural glow. It’s an easy and simple way to prevent acne and blackheads. I prefer this instead of a physical scrub as this is more gentle and it removes the dirt without being abrasive or damaging.

Serum

I use a vitamin c serum to mainly correct the hyperpigmentation on my chin and mouth area and to lighten dark spots left behind by pimples. The E’clat Vitamin C Serum has additional ingredients that enrich the skin. It is also formulated with vitamin E, hyaluronic acid, and ferulic acid. Hyaluronic Acid improves hydration and makes skin soft supple and moist, which is one of my favorite reasons to use this product.

Moisturizer

Of all the moisturizers I’ve tried so far, I feel like my skin has been loving the belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb. Other moisturizers usually made my skin oily throughout the day or left my skin feeling too dry, wanting moisture. The belif moisturizer absorbs right into my skin a few seconds after I apply it and locks in moisture, helping it stay hydrated throughout the day. I’m currently on my third bottle which shows how much I love it.

Sunscreen

This step is truly vital to the whole routine as if you do all those steps to clean, exfoliate and enrich the skin and end up forgetting to protect it, then all of it goes to waste. The skin needs protection from the sun’s harmful UV rays. It is very important to end your daytime routine with sunscreen to protect your skin from the rays, prevent premature aging and skin cancer, even if you stay indoors since the rays pass through windows also. It is also important that you reapply every 2 hours for continued protection.

I am currently using a chemical sunscreen which is The Face Shop Natural Sun Eco Super Perfect Sun Cream 50+PA+++. It doesn’t leave a noticeable white cast and isn’t greasy.

Lip Balm

This is my favorite step. I can’t leave the house without lip balm on. It annoys me when my lips dry. So, I always have one in my bag to keep my lips moisturized. I usually tend to scrub off all the dead skin on my lips in the shower. I wet my lips with water and as the dead skin softens after 5-10 mins, I scrub it off gently, without bruising it. This technique leaves my skin soft and smooth.

Some of my favs are Maybelline Baby Lips with SPF 20 (Quenched), eos Lip Balm Stick (Vanilla Bean), Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, Sunday Riley Lip Balm, The Face Shop Lip Care Cream - Shea Butter.
