My Skincare Routine
So, these are a few things I use to keep my skin clean and clear. These products help keep my skin clear from any pimples and keep it nice and hydrated. If you are a person who wears makeup, it is important that you practice a good skincare routine as the buildup of makeup can cause breakouts. Even if you cover your pimples with makeup, the texture of the pimples will show through. So, a good base will make the face look bright and even.
One of the most important things to do to keep your face free from pimples, is to not touch it with your hands. Our hands have a lot of bacteria which causes pimples to appear on the skin. Another way to practice good hygiene is by frequently washing your hands and sanitizing the products you use regularly like your phone, computer, pillow case, makeup and so on.
Everyone’s skin is different and I found that these products have worked for my skin type, minimizing the appearance of pores and preventing pimples. I have combination skin, where I get oily mostly on my t-zone (forehead, nose and chin), and I also have large pores on my nose because of that. The rest of my face is normal to dry. The skin on my body is really dry and I find that the lotion that I mentioned, works for me, to keep it hydrated throughout the whole day.
Here are some of the products I use, as part of my skincare routine:
FACE
Cleanser
I currently use the Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Brightening & Exfoliating Daily Cleanser. I love that it removes everything from my skin, while still keeping me feeling hydrated. A little goes a long way, too. Since it is an exfoliating cleanser, it has little, tiny beads in them, that remove dead skin cells, dirt and oil that clog my pores. Another budget-friendly option that I used to use was the Olay Total Effects Citrus Facial Cleanser and Scrub.
Salicylic Acid
I’ve been using this product for a few weeks now and I really find a difference on my face. Salicylic acid is generally used to treat pimples. The most common ones that I get are white heads and hormonal pimples. This product has helped keep my skin clean, clear and treat those pimples. Stridex salicylic acid soaked pads are a really affordable, drugstore product that has helped my skin so much. I use it ever time I do my skincare routine, so day and night. I let it sit for 15-20 mins on the skin or while getting dressed, as I apply lotion to my body while I wait, before continuing with the following steps. Most of all, it’s alcohol-free, so it’s safe to use on your skin.
Toner
I use the Thayers Rose Petal Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera Formula Toner. Witch hazel helps tightening pores, controlling oil production, locking moisture in, and keeping free radicals out. The rose petals help restore dehydrated skin and is crucial for collagen production, strengthening skin cells, and fading blemishes and scars. Aloe vera helps soothe the skin. I’ve been using this product for several weeks and absolutely LOVE it. I even tried switching back to my old routine and couldn’t deal even for a day! I highly recommend and it smells so nice! I use it with these cotton pads.
Moisturizer
This product is a bit newer to my routine but it hydrates my skin and has given it a more even tone. Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Brightening & Smoothing Moisture Treatment leaves my skin looking bright and removes texture from the chin area. It’s a bit pricey but the quality is worth it.
Sunscreen
Sunscreen is super important when you go outside in the sun. The sun has a lot of harmful rays that will damage your skin and make it age quicker. Sunscreen will prevent you from getting sun spots and fine lines. I started using SPF at a very young age so, I’m sure it’ll pay-off big time in the future. The sunscreen I use is the Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47, which works great under makeup. A huge problem with SPF products and sunscreen is that it generally tends to leave a white cast on the skin and can look very greasy. This product is kind of firm and sticks to the skin as you apply it. As you apply it, the white texture in the product will disappear, blending well with the skin. It doesn’t feel sticky but helps the foundation, concealer or any other makeup, grab onto it. It also gives my face a glowy look, which is great for no-makeup days and golden-hour selfies.
An affordable alternative I used to use was the Olay Luminous Brightening and Protecting Lotion SPF 30. This did used to leave a greasy feeling and an oily look to the skin.
Lips
The final step in my skincare routine is lip balm. I usually tend to scrub off all the dead skin on my lips in the shower. I wet my lips with water and as the dead skin softens after 5-10 mins, I scrub it off gently, without bruising the lip. This technique leaves my skin soft and smooth. After I complete all the steps in my skincare routine, I apply a lip balm with SPF, to keep my lips hydrated and protected. Some of my favorites include Maybelline Baby Lips with SPF 20 (Quenched), eos Lip Balm Stick (Vanilla Bean) and Smith's Rosebud Salve.
BODY
A couple of products I use on my body are Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash with a loofah in the shower and afterwords I use the Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion to moisturize the skin. I also use Bio Oil to fade any scars that I have.
